McConnell’s Launches Plant-Based Ice Cream

McConnell’s Launches Plant-Based Ice Cream

McConnell’s, a traditional dairy creamery founded in 1949, has just now launched two new exciting plant-based ice cream flavors: Marionberries and Dark Chocolate Chip and Eureka Lemon. These new flavors are readily available in all of their scoop shops now. McConnell’s broke the news that even more plant-based flavors are being formulated right now and will soon debut both at grocery stores and online early this coming spring.

On their Instagram page, McConnell’s states “Delicious flavors, peerless ingredients, and the smooth and consistent texture McC’s fans expect, in a revolutionary and innovative, dairy-free offering. The industry’s first frozen dessert made from our own proprietary blend of pea protein!”

McConnell’s is the first in the industry to create a plant-based ice cream made out of pea protein.

This is extremely exciting because pea protein brings with it a host of benefits such as:

  • It’s hypoallergenic, unlike other protein sources such as whey, casein, egg and even soy.
  • It’s high in BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids). BCAAs help keep the body in a muscle building state during the day, decrease belly fat, energize workout sessions and keep you full between meals.
  • It’s easily digested and won’t cause you to feel bloated or gassy.
  • It’s rich in protein and brings a whopping 25 grams per scoop unlike other plant-based products that only have about 10-15 grams.

The future seems to be plant-powered when traditional dairy creameries begin offering plant-based options. Consumers are demanding more and more dairy free alternatives and the industry is listening. The plant-based milk market can be expected to reach over sixteen billion dollars in 2018. Ben & Jerry’s, Haagen-Dazs, and Breyer’s, three of the leading dairy industry giants have all gotten on board with many others soon to follow.
